thinking...
after over a year of really getting back into my sketch book or as one of my fav teacher's from university days used to call it 'my book of ideas', i am feeling really great. there is something so awesome about having a place to just go a little crazy in. it has also been interesting to look back through these journals to see how things have evolved from day one and contemplate my future directions. One thing that i found lacking and would like to include more of are concrete 'events' or snippets from my actual day to day life. As someone who kept a diary from an early age, I think it would be nice to mix in a bit of a 'diary' feel into some of my journal work from here on in. Certainly not every single page, but I love the idea of certain pages containing clues to a moment or a feeling or a something that happened...kind of like tags to trigger a snapshot of something you might not have room to remember, but can live comfortably between some old worn out journal pages.
i wish to plant a rose bush, like the ones we had growing up. i know they are not everyones favorite, but i do love their classic beauty.

jaime send me a beautiful letter with this quote and i couldn't resist, i had to cut it out and keep it here.

The start of a garden...

friendly friends sprouting up...

Green Beans!

The tips of snow peas.
Party time.
i just booked a mini vacation to new orleans this summer and it makes me want to have a mini party this morning, right here at my desk.

i love spring. it is so beautiful out right now and everything smells fresh. i am still desperately trying to keep all the plants i sprouted alive, though after a fairly disastrous repotting experience this weekend, i am feeling very worried about my little guys. Well it is my first time gardening, so i guess i will just chalk it up learning, as i like to remind myself:
mistakes=learning.

visual equation.

sometimes while working on a collage I am reminded of math. In fact, each collage i make is sort of like a little visual math problem that i have to solve by adding or subtracting things from a page or rotating shapes and angling text until some kind of harmony has been achieved.

...Oh and of course, there must always be a creature in there somewhere....without those it just never feels finished!

Day 31

The birds are back.

in trunks.
this weekend i hit up the always awesome trunk show down at the workroom. i was lucky enough to get there in time to snatch up some of melinda's awesome fabrics! i couldn't wait to use it in my journal. so voila, it makes a perfect head scarf for me and my cat.

and of course i went to tap class this week. i don't know what i am going to do when my class closes up for the summer. kyle is thinking of building me my own tap floor to put in the back yard. i fear for my neighbors.
the birds are back.

It is always important to draw a map of the important places you need to remember. i used to make maps of all of my forts when i was younger. i had many of these secret places dedicated to hiding out and eating penny candy...mmm...gummy bears. for some reason, i still believe the best gummy bears i ever had were from the priceville general store!
